For the first time since going on hiatus in 2012, The People are returning to the live music scene of Melbourne to launch their new EP “”Cactus Atacama””. In 2016, keyboardist and back up vocalist of The People, Andreas Florez passed away after a brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Andreas was an upcoming musician who had just released a solo EP during his bouts of chemotherapy, in which he did not let cancer get in the way of his musical ambitions. The Florez family have since begun raising money to create a perpetual scholarship at RMIT university for upcoming music students to study abroad, a passion of Andreas’. $250,000 needs to be raised to create this scholarship in honour of Andreas Florez and The People have reformed in order to help raise these funds. The EP launch will therefore be a fundraising event for this scholarship fund, with 100% of the profits from CD sales and door sales being donated to the fund. The event will see support from Miff as well as an intimate set by Andreas’ older brother Alejandro Florez. So come on down for a great Sunday afternoon session, and help raise some money for this great cause!
